my short west coast trip is complete

Journal Entry: Thu May 8, 2008, 1:37 AM
thanks to my sister and her horrible taste in men i now have a collection of horrendously atrocious in-laws. wretched little Bremerton is a fucking dump. Also Seattle is actually shitty. it was very disappointing. Portland, on the other hand, was wonderful and beautiful lovely-fantastic awesomeness. i've never seen such a clean city. also i am in love with the tiny town of Ashland. coastal Oregon rocks the casbah. to Washington's credit though, people are very laid back there, which was kind of nice, because in the bay area we are all fucking strung out all the time and we are always busy and stressed and we all really need chill pills and oh i have to meet john doe in the office at 7 to breif him for a board meeting at 7:15 then coffee with an associate afterwards and i gotta go BYE! and that is why we smoke weed

well, one reason

tl;dr and yeah, i didn't go to socal, but socal actually fucking sucks

yes, it seems rather typical....Jerry garcia, Jeff buckley, Hunter thompson, Burroughs, ginsberg, etc etc....lots of dead heros.

oh! thank you!! how excellent. i googled it, found the site, and read "Grateful Dead hour". i instantly knew it was the station for me, hehe.

and yes, Mckenna's lectures/speeches/auditive journeys/et al are all generally rather hard to forget.. his voice is somehow very rhythmic and primal like heartbeat. Damn it, it seems that all the people I've respected the most have died of cancer! aaargh...

yes, psychedelics dont really make one a writer....and its hard to forget just how incredibly educated Terrance Mckenna was before he tried his first toke of DMT and met the machine elves. :giggle: I like the hypnotic rhythms he used, often times he would lecture at raves with techno/trance or Jungle music playing under him....what a ride that would have been. theres a local public radio station out of boulder that plays some of his lectures and other strange combinations of music and spoken word like wm s. burroughs and ginsberg, kesey, leary and others. its called KGNU Boulder and they stream online. its usually good head-food late on friday and saturday nights into early morning hours.

i believe that it often came naturally to him, would just sort of flow out of his pen or his mouth like breath. i've listened to some of his lectures, in which he did not have a reference sheet with him, and he has this sort of hypnotic rhythm.. but i do also think that the use of psychoactive substances can help blur the culturally imposed false dichotomy between the Self and the Universe, the recognition of which can often stir dormant artistic tendencies. i suppose it would be hard not to be poetic, when faced with a monumental revelation such as that. but yes i do think that mckenna was simply poetically inclined, because i've met shroomers aplenty who wrote shit poetry.

do you believe that mckenna wrote poetry into his work or did it just come naturally to the psychedelic mind?
